What We Collect
If you use the app in guest mode, your activity is stored locally on your device using browser storage. This activity is not synced to an account and may be cleared if you switch devices or clear browser data.
If you create an account, we store limited reading activity required to support core app functionality across devices, such as books marked as already read and temporary skip data.
What We Do with It
We use your reading activity to run the app—syncing your shelf, showing you your history, keeping your Currently Reading list intact. That's it. No selling, no profiling, no passing it to third parties.
We may look at aggregated, anonymised trends (e.g. which moods are picked most) to improve the app. This never identifies individual users.
Deleting Your Data
You have full control over your data. You can permanently delete your account and all associated reading history at any time through your account settings. Once confirmed, this data is removed from our systems immediately. We only store your data as long as your account is active. It is not automatically removed due to inactivity.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand usage patterns, such as which pages are visited and how long people spend on them. This helps us improve the experience.
We do not use advertising cookies, we do not sell personal data, and we do not do cross-site tracking.
Content & Age Guidance
So Many African Books is a platform for all readers. We believe in reading freedom and do not restrict access by age. However, some titles on our platform contain mature themes: explicit language, violence, or adult content. These titles are labeled accordingly so readers can make informed choices.
The Blog & Community Writing
The SMAB Blog features writing from the So Many African Books team and from community contributors—readers and book people who pitch in with reviews, recommendations, and their own takes on African fiction.
If you write for us, your name goes on your post and stays there. We link back to wherever you originally published, if you want us to. We don't publish anything without your say-so, and attribution is always included.
Want something taken down or changed? Get in touch and we'll sort it fast.
Community contributors don't create accounts on the platform. Nothing they write is connected to any personal data we hold on app users.

This service is operated from Nigeria. By using So Many African Books, you acknowledge that your data is handled in accordance with applicable Nigerian law.
